Acupuncture /
Traditional Chinese Medicine

At Balance Complementary Medicine, we have a number of experienced Chinese medicine practitioners, specialising in delivering effective acupuncture remedies to the Melbourne Bayside area. The ancient practice of acupuncture is a modality integrated with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The basis of Chinese philosophy and acupuncture theory is holistic, and acknowledges the existence of a primary energetic force behind all life (Qi) and the relationship between the individual and environment. Specific diagnostic tools such as Chinese Tongue and Pulse Diagnosis and Hara diagnosis (abdominal palpation) are used to assess an individual’s overal health and treatment needs.

acupuncture involves the insertion of fine pins into specific
acu-points to harmonise the flow of qi in the body.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine pins into specific acupoints to harmonise the flow of Qi (vital energy) in the body. Other non-insertive techniques like moxibustion, cupping, acupressure or laser acupuncture may be used alone or in conjunction with the acupuncture treatment.

Acupuncture aims to stimulate and strengthen the body’s natural healing mechanisms and restore balance. Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of health conditions and was originally used in ancient China to prevent illness.

Our acupuncturists are highly skilled and are very gentle, using top quality Japanese-style needles, so your comfort is assured.

All of our Chinese Medicine practitioners are registered with AHPRA and have completed Health Science degrees in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with post-graduate training in the following areas:

Stress and mood
disorders

In Australia, acupuncturists and Chinese medicine practitioners are registered health professionals under AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency). AHPRA places limitations on what we can advertise, so we cannot list many of the common conditions that acupuncture traditionally treats. If you would like to know if acupuncture can help you, please give us a call at the clinic, and we would be more than happy to discuss and answer any questions that you may have.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Based on over 2500 years of traditional Chinese medicine practices, Traditional Chinese Medicine still has a role to play in the health and wellbeing of many people around the world. It is estimated that over three million Australians utilise Traditional Chinese Medicine, using it as a stand-alone health practise or as a complementary approach to Western medicine.

If you are looking for a Chinese Herbalist in Melbourne near you, the team at Balance Complementary Medicine are trained and experienced in the various elements of this practise. Our Chinese medicine clinic is based in Bayside Melbourne and can help you start feeling better.

Many people know that practices such as acupuncture come under Traditional Chinese Medicine, however there are plenty of other healing practises that do as well, including:

Cupping

Chinese Dietary Therapies

Herbal remedies

Moxibustion

Tui Na

Tai Chi

Meditation

Does Chinese Medicine Work?

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that factors that determine the health of people are specific to each individual. With Chinese medicine becoming more popular as an alternative or complementary practice, it is important that patients only seek the assistance of trained and educated complementary medicine doctors. Our Doctors of Chinese medicine are all APHRA registered Health care practitioners.

Practises such as acupuncture have been found as an effective treatment for chronic pain, Tai Chi can improve lower and upper body strength, and cupping can assist with pain relief, muscle relaxation and energy blockages.

Feeling run down? Not able to focus? Overwhelmed with chronic pain? A Traditional Chinese doctor in Melbourne can help you start to feel better with a variety of Chinese medicine practices. Different to the Western medicine practises you are used to, a Chinese doctor in Melbourne focuses on the balance, harmony and energy in your body.

You have likely heard of Yin and Yang. These are the two components that make up your Qi, or your life energy. One doesn’t work without the other, and they both need to be kept in balance to keep your emotional and physical wellbeing in check.

A Chinese doctor will help you balance your Qi through various methods including acupuncture, herbs, acupuressure, Tai Chi and more.

A Chinese Herbalist in Melbourne practises Chinese herbal medicine – a specific component within Traditional Chinese Medicine. They prescribe herbs to help balance the Qi in their patient, and support wellbeing.

A herbalist would take into account your Yin and Yang balance before prescribing a particular herb or combination of herbs. Their goal is to ensure balance between Yin and Yang so will work carefully to make this balance.

Finding a Chinese medicine clinic near you doesn’t need to be difficult. At Balance Complementary Medicine we suggest finding a Traditional Chinese Medicine practise where practitioners are experienced in a whole range of Chinese medicine modalities.

Our natural healthcare clinic specialises in alternative, complementary and Chinese medicines including acupuncture, naturopathy.
